Come and enjoy art classes in a variety of subjects in a variety of media. Your downtown art center offers art classes, workshops, special events, artist studios, birthday parties, gallery and meeting spaces, and more! Weekly classes and workshops are offered in drawing, painting, and ceramics. Each class is unique and small in size. Students focus on growing as individuals with a lot of personal attention from instructors. The projects are fun and creative and will be taught by our accomplished artists and teachers.
Our art classes meet in 8-week sessions as follows:
Session 1: August 15-October 7
Session 2: October 10 to December 16th ; no classes October 17-21 & Nov 21-25
Session 3: Jan 9-March 17th; no classes Feb 13-17

Explore your creativity! Classes offer students the chance to experience a variety of media including sculpture, painting, drawing and more. Students will work on a variety of projects with an emphasis on fun, creativity, and self-expression all while learning valuable artistic techniques. This class is appropriate for all levels from the beginner just looking for fun to the avid artist looking for new ways to experiment and improve their work!
Hand-Building in Clay for Youth
Fridays @ 4 p.m.-5 p.m.
Ages: 11-16 years old
Instructor: Kim Riner
Tuition: $110 per 8-week session ($100 member) + $15 supply fee
Kids will have a blast expressing themselves artistically through the medium of clay. In this class, kids will learn to design and make hand-built pottery and ceramic sculpture using various techniques such as slab construction, coiling, and pinching. Glazing techniques will also be covered in this course. This is a great class for all levels; we start with the basic construction methods and explore the limitless possibilities of the material.
Hand-Building in Clay for Kids

Kids will experience the fun and challenges of creating with clay in a positive learning environment. In this class, students will create a variety of projects that use basic clay techniques such as: coiling, pinching, and slab construction. The projects will encourage problem-solving skills while at the same time allowing the student to explore their creativity with clay. Students will create projects that are adapted to their learning level while at the same time challenging them to strive for a higher level of mastery. This is a wonderful class for the student who is just beginning with clay, and this is also a great class for the student who is interested in applying the basic hand-building skills to develop their artistic expression in clay.
Kids on Canvas: Drawing & Painting

Ages: 9-14 years old

Tuition: $99 per 8-week session ($90 member) + $15 supply fee
Students will explore the world of drawing and painting in this class. They will be encouraged to let their own creativity guide them with the paints while learning about the materials and techniques. For inspiration, we will look at various artists throughout history to understand how they made creative and inventive artwork. We will draw and paint on a variety of surfaces. For each new technique, students will receive a class demonstration at the beginning of class.
Youth Wheel Throwing
Wednesdays @ 4 p.m.-5:30 p.m.
Ages: 9-16 years old

Tuition: $120 per 8-week session ($100 member) + $15 supply fee
Come have fun with clay! This class is an introduction to the potter's wheel for beginning students. Basic throwing skills will be taught, as well as the technical skills needed to make beautiful creations. Surface treatments will also be explored to finish your artwork with style. This course is limited to seven students per session.
Rock Band
Mondays @ 4:30p.m.-6 p.m.
Ages: 11-18 years old

Location: Youth Gallery-music. Art will be upstairs at the Roxie.
Tuition: $140 per 8-week session ($100 member) + $10 supply fee
Rock Band is an eight-week course where students will learn to play music together, and develop music-making skills, and art to accompany their music. Students will learn the elements and fundamentals of melody, and rhythm, and how to craft their sound to work with others. Students can play instruments that they are already familiar with or explore new instruments. The content of the class will be adapted to suit the needs of the class.

Drawing for the Ultimate Beginner

If learning to draw has always been a desire, but a lack of skills or knowledge has been a fear factor, this class is for you. Join Bunyan Morris as he guides the class through the basics of drawing through perception. We will begin with the very basics such as how to perceive what you are drawing, how to use shading to create form and how to draw with more confidence. Supplies needed: Drawing pencils, eraser and a quality sketchbook.
Scissors & Stories: Collage with Purpose
Wednesdays @ 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.
Ages: 14 & up
Instructor: Nancey B. Price
Tuition: $110 per 8-week session ($100 member)
Designed for beginners and those who know their way around a good pair of scissors, this course will introduce a variety of collage techniques that artists at any level can add to their toolbox. Join Nancey as she guides the class through best practices for collage-making while encouraging you to consider the role of storytelling in your work. Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite cutting tools, books/magazines for image-sourcing, and openness to scraps of paper and sticky fingers!

No matter how young or old you can be successful in clay. Employing a variety of hand building and wheel throwing techniques we will have fun making functional and sculptural pieces. We will glaze and fire our work to take home and enjoy. This is a perfect class for all levels! Pick the day and time that works best for you. Our instructor will individualize instruction to your needs. Tuition includes 25 lbs. of clay with glazes and firings, as well as practice time during Open Studio hours. Additional clay and tools can be purchased.
Advanced Wheel Throwing

Advanced Wheel Throwing
This class is designed for the ceramics student who is experienced. The Advanced Throwing class will
focus on furthering throwing skills, especially larger, complex forms. The class will give students one on
one attention and help them develop as artists.
Painting with Watercolors

In this class, both beginners and intermediates will learn the ins and outs of watercolor painting. Join Rebecca to delve into the basics of the medium and studies of value, light and color mixing. Small class sizes ensure personalized time with the instructor.

This class is designed for home-schooled children who want to enrich their educational experience by exploring their creativity with clay. Students will create a variety of projects using basic hand-building techniques such as: pinching, coiling and slab construction Students will have fun creating projects that are functional and artistic as they explore the medium of clay. The projects will be adapted to meet the ability level of the student while challenging the student to reach mastery of the clay techniques. Students will explore their creativity through construction and decoration of clay projects; but most of all the student will experience the joy of creative and artistic expression through clay.
The Art Experience for Kids

This class is designed for home-schooled children who want to enrich their educational experience through fun art activities in a well-rounded curriculum. Students will create beautiful pieces of artwork while learning about media and techniques. The curriculum will include a variety of projects in drawing, painting, and crafts. The student will learn valuable problem-solving skills which they can transfer to other areas of their educational pursuits. The projects will be adapted to meet the ability level of the student while challenging the student to seek the potential of their creative ability.
