Come and enjoy art classes in a variety of subjects in a variety of media. Your downtown art center offers art classes, workshops,  special events, artist studios, birthday parties, gallery and meeting spaces and more! Weekly classes and workshops are offered in drawing, painting, and ceramics. Each class is unique and small in size. Students focus on growing as individuals with a lot of personal attention from instructors. The projects are fun and creative and will be taught by our accomplished artists and teachers.     

 

Our art classes meet in 8-week sessions as follows:
Session 1: August 17-October 9th
Session 2: October 12-December 18th; no classes October 19-23 & November 23-27
Session 3: January 11-March 12th; no classes February 15-19
Session 4: March 22-May 21; no classes April 5-9

Pee Wee Art Club

Thursdays @ 1 p.m.-1:45 p.m.
Ages: 3-4 years old
Instructor: Ainslee Silverstone
Tuition: $99 per 8-week session ($90 member) + $10 supply fee

Designed for the youngest artists, the Pee Wee Art Club will give the club members an opportunity to explore and express themselves through art. Children will get messy so they should be dressed accordingly.

Saturday Art Stop

Third Saturdays @ 11 a.m.-12 p.m.
Ages: 5-10 years old
Instructor: Alex McReynolds
Tuition: $35 per Saturday ($25 members)

Experience the joy of becoming an artist! Creativity and a variety of sensory rich mediums combine in this fun hands-on exploration that builds confidence, creativity, and self expression. Young artists will be exposed to beginning visual art concepts and vocabulary while developing essential life skills, discovering and sharing their world. Inventive and engaging new themes are continuously explored to create unique works of art each session.

KidShop Studio

Thursdays @ 4:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m.
Ages: 5-10 years old
Instructor: Anna Forbes
Tuition: $99 per 8-week session ($90 member) + $5 supply fee

Explore your creativity! Classes offer students the chance to experience a variety of media including sculpture, painting, drawing and more. Students will work on a variety of projects with an emphasis on fun, creativity, and self-expression all while learning valuable artistic techniques. This class is appropriate for all levels from the beginner just looking for fun to the avid artist looking for new ways to experiment and improve their work!

Hand-Building in Clay for Kids

Tuesdays @ 4 p.m.-5:15 p.m.
Ages: 5-12 years old
Instructor: Robin Spitler
Tuition: $110 per 8-week session ($100 member) + $15 supply fee

Kids will have a blast expressing themselves artistically through the medium of clay. In this class kids will learn to design and make hand-built pottery and ceramic sculpture using various techniques such as slab construction, coiling, and pinching. Glazing techniques will also be covered in this course. This is a great class for beginners; we start with the basic construction methods and explore the limitless possibilities of the material.

Kids on Canvas: Drawing & Painting

Tuesdays @ 4:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m.
Ages: 9-14 years old
Instructor: Cindy Pennington
Tuition: $99 per 8-week session ($90 member) + $15 supply fee

Students will explore the world of drawing and painting in this class. They will be encouraged to let their own creativity guide them with the paints while learning about the materials and techniques.  For inspiration, we will look at various artists throughout history to understand how they made creative and inventive artwork.  We will draw and paint on a variety of surfaces. For each new technique, students will receive a class demonstration at the beginning of class. 

Youth Wheel Throwing

Wednesdays @ 4 p.m.-5:30 p.m.
Ages: 9-16 years old
Instructor: Doris Locklear
Tuition: $120 per 8-week session ($100 member) + $15 supply fee

Come have fun with clay! This class is an introduction to the potter's wheel for beginning students. Basic throwing skills will be taught, as well as the technical skills needed to make beautiful creations. Surface treatments will also be explored to finish your artwork with style. This course is limited to seven students per session.

Ceramic Sampler Classes

Ages: 14 years old & up

Tuition: $204 per 8-week session ($185 non-members) 

No matter how young or old you can be successful in clay. Employing a variety of hand building and wheel throwing techniques we will have fun making functional and sculptural pieces. We will glaze and fire our work to take home and enjoy. This is a perfect class for all levels!  Pick the day and time that works best for you.  Our instructor will individualize instruction to your needs. Tuition includes 25 lbs. of clay with glazes and firings, as well as practice time during Open Studio hours. Additional clay and tools can be purchased.

Exploration in Jewelry Processes

Thursdays @ 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m.

Ages: 14 years old & up 

Instructor: Nicole Bovasso 

Tuition:  175 with a $15  Supply fee;  Most supplies provided, jewelers pliers will be purchased by student

This course is designed to teach a variety of jewelry making techniques that can easily translate into any home studio or workspace without requiring expensive tools or equipment. We will go over a variety of cold connecting processes, metal stamping and texturing, jewelry components and findings, simple wire wrapping and forming techniques, patina use and coloration, resin use, and more, with a goal of creating high-quality finished jewelry pieces. Each student is invited to explore a variety of materials and colors to create individualized work.

Home-School Classes

Hand-Building in Clay for Homeschoolers

Tuesdays @ 2 p.m.-3 p.m.
Ages: 5-13 years old
Instructor:  Robin Spitler
Tuition: $110 per 8-week session ($100 member) + $15 supply fee

This class is designed for home-schooled children who want to explore working with clay. Students will learn basic hand-building skills to create functional and sculptural works. Hand-building includes pinching, coiling, and working with slabs. Projects include animals, pottery, tiles and more. Students will decorate and glaze their finished pieces.
