Bio
Marcy Deanne Simmons is an award-winning oil painter and mixed media artist. Marcy finds joy in capturing the beauty of the natural world in her florals and landscapes, translating intricate human emotions through form and color. She paints in a realistic style with an expressive approach. In 2020, Marcy lost her oldest son, Jordan, in a tragic accident and it is through this grief journey from which she approaches her art. She has a passion for telling stories of redemption. Marcy is a self-taught artist but she is continually refining her skills through workshops and online classes. Her work has been featured in numerous juried exhibitions and she loves teaching the tradition of oil painting to high school students in the summer months. Marcy lives and works locally in Statesboro, GA.
Artist Statement
The language of flowers has been recognized for centuries and can express nearly every sentiment imaginable. I paint flowers to suggest human emotion and communicate ideas of redemption. After losing my oldest son in a tragic accident in May of 2020, my grief journey has been one of learning to find beauty in the ashes. It is this idea that inspires all my work. I see my paintings as stories and I hope that they will encourage viewers to think more deeply about our affections, the human connection, and the power and beauty of transformation in our lives.
