The Statesboro Youth Chorale (SYC) is a choral music performance and education program for children and teenagers. SYC emphasizes the development of musical skills and musical understanding through singing. Singing is the major focus of the musical experience, and it is a powerfully personal means of expression. We hope this experience will form the foundation for a life-long relationship with music for the singers and their families.

As the musical anchor of the Averitt Center for the Arts' vibrant youth programs, SYC, under the leadership of Sarah Hancock, is proud to be running five choirs!

The Choirs of the Statesboro Youth Chorale

The Early Elementary Division - Cherubim & Seraphim

The early elementary division is a non-auditioned choir experience for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students. Some second grade students who have completed one year in the Cherubim will advance into the Seraphim. Fourth graders may be chosen to participate in this division through audition. Each weekly lesson combines the learning of musical skills through group singing, dancing, and musical games that bring together educational experiences in meaningful ways.

The Children’s Choir Division - Bel Canto & Allegro!

Two auditioned choirs make up the children’s choir division of SYC. Singers in this division are usually enrolled in grades 4th through 8th or 9th. Sixth graders may be chosen to participate in Bel Canto through audition. Singers in this division continue the development of musical literacy and are active performers in this region and in choir festivals around the world.

The High School Division - Vox Novum

Auditioned high school students who love to sing together make up the magic of Vox Novum. Singers in this division have successfully completed an audition. Singers in Vox Novum work on more challenging repertoire and perform three or four times a season.
