The Statesboro Youth Chorale (SYC) is a choral music performance and education program for children and teenagers. SYC emphasizes the development of musical skills and musical understanding through singing. Singing is the major focus of the musical experience, and it is a powerfully personal means of expression. We hope this experience will form the foundation for a life-long relationship with music for the singers and their families.

As the musical anchor of the Averitt Center for the Arts' vibrant youth programs, SYC, under the leadership of Sarah Hancock, is proud to be running five choirs!luggage

Meet our Director: Sarah Hancock

Sarah Hancock served as Associate Director of the Statesboro Youth Chorale from 2003 until 2006, when she became the Artistic Director taking over from its Founder, Michael Braz. During her tenure with the Statesboro Youth Chorale, the group has grown to encompass five choirs at the training, middle school, and high school levels. The organization has traveled to choral festivals in England, Indianapolis, and Disney World, and performs often in the Statesboro area and surrounding region. Members of the Chorale have performed in the national tour of The Wizard of Oz, and the Peach State Opera production of Mozart's 'The Magic Flute".
