Buttercream Basics: Cake Decorating

This class is designed to teach you the most basic techniques of cake decorating. Students will learn to ice a cake, complete simple boarders, transfers, writing, and some detail piping (including learning the Buttercream Rose). A cake round will be supplied to you for these classes.

Fondant Fun

This class is designed to teach you the basics of decorating with fondant. You MUST take this class to move on to the Fondant Figures Class. Students will learn to cover cakes in fondant, make flowers, fondant boarders, and simple flat figures. This class will meet twice.

Fondant Figures

Students will learn to make figures and various decorations out of fondant and Rice Krispy treats. Students will get one cake round to complete final cake. This class will meet twice.

Fourth of July Cake Class

Come learn to make a 4th of July inspired cake! WOW your friends during the holiday!!!! Super fun class!!!!

One Time Clay Experience

Be one of the first to work in our new ceramics facility!! This one-time clay experience is for the beginner and for those who have taken beginning pottery classes in the past and would like a refresher lesson. This workshop will introduce the basic skills of working with clay. This 3-hour event includes a demonstration and hands-on clay experience.

All instructors are fully qualified to teach in their area of expertise. When necessary, assistants are hired to keep adult – child ratios at optimal levels. All Averitt Center employees undergo a criminal background check. The Averitt Center for the Arts takes a strong stand against child endangerment. Parents of young children are welcome to observe from outside the classroom if they desire.
