The ensemble rehearses and performs music by Classical composers, ranging from Handel and Bach to Holst and Britten. Its repertoire also includes film music, jazz, Celtic fiddling and popular music. To be eligible, students must be proficient


ART: Beginning Wheel Throwing
8 weeks sessions

Students will explore form and surface in a demonstration-based atmosphere while learning to wedge, center, and throw basic forms such as mugs, bowls, and vases.This class is a must for the novices as it will focus on proper techniques


clayART: Beginning Hand-Building
8 week sessions

This course will introduce the basics of hand-building including pinch, coil, and slab construction, as well as a variety of surface and finishing options. Both sculptural and vessel options will be explored.


paintART: Painting Like the Masters
8 week sessions

Are you a beginner to oil painting? Be timid no longer! This step-by-step class leads you through the process of creating your own master work. Traditional techniques, such as underpainting and glazing, provide a foundation for further exploration


ballroomDANCE: Beginning Ballroom
Weekly Dance Lessons

Would you rather be ballroom dancing yourself instead of watching it on television? Join veteran ballroom dance teacher, Tony Phillips, for these weekly beginning ballroom dance lessons and learn how to dance the night away.

Autumn Ball – Saturday, November 1, 2014

Come put into practice what you have learned in dance class during this Autumn Ball. The theme will be Autumn colors of orange, red, and yellow. A 30-minute dance lesson will be provided by Tony Phillips to begin the evening.

All instructors are fully qualified to teach in their area of expertise. When necessary, assistants are hired to keep adult – child ratios at optimal levels. All Averitt Center employees undergo a criminal background check. The Averitt Center for the Arts takes a strong stand against child endangerment. Parents of young children are welcome to observe from outside the classroom if they desire.
